Start with the sound or production task—not a popularity chart. Guided goals translate intent into relevant functional categories.
- Interrogate the shortlist
Filter by device, price, protocol, and category; then compare two to four candidates without pretending one tool is universally “best.”

FORMAT LITERACY
What “AUv3” means here
Audio Unit v3 is Apple’s modern App Extension-based plug-in format. On iPhone and iPad, the Audio Unit is normally delivered inside a parent app and instantiated by a compatible host such as a DAW, mixer, or modular environment.
A standalone music app is not automatically an AUv3, and an AUv3 label does not guarantee every device, host, bus format, MIDI mode, preset system, or automation workflow will behave identically. AUlib treats format support as research evidence, not laboratory certification.
CATALOG INTEGRITY
Evidence over false certainty
The catalog combines structured store metadata with reviewed compatibility fields. Candidate additions follow a human-review path before entering the production catalog.
Blank compatibility cells mean unknown or not yet verified—not “unsupported.” Prices, ratings, versions, availability, and system requirements can change; use the source listing and developer documentation for the final decision.

PRIVATE BY ARCHITECTURE
Your studio context stays with you
AUlib is a static PWA with no required account. Personal state is stored in this browser on this device. Public search links contain discovery filters only; they exclude favorites, statuses, notes, comparisons, custom catalog entries, and chains.
Backups are created only when you export them. App Store links open an external Apple page. Clearing browser data can remove local AUlib state, so export a backup before changing devices or browser profiles.
PROGRESSIVE WEB APP
Fast to revisit, resilient away from Wi-Fi
Install AUlib from a supporting browser for an app-like launch experience. Its service worker keeps a versioned application shell and reuses previously fetched catalog data when the network is unavailable.
Updates are deliberately visible: when a new offline version is ready, AUlib offers an update instead of silently mixing old interface files with a new release.

Catalog intelligence without private studio data
AUlib’s read-only MCP service can expose the public catalog to compatible AI clients for search and workflow suggestions. It is deployed separately from this PWA and has no access to the favorites, notes, backups, custom entries, or chains stored in your browser.
